Can I change my order?

Canadian orders can be changed prior to shipping. Please contact us to request assistance at hello@whimsicalthings.ca

Unfortunately USD orders cannot be changed/edited once they are placed, which means we cannot add/remove items without cancelling the entire order and starting a new one. This is a Shopify rule that we cannot change and we apologize for the inconvenience. We can however combine shipping on separate orders if none of them has shipped yet. Please get in touch with us via email at hello@whimsicalthings.ca if you require changes to your order so we can find the easiest solution.

We accept returns within 14 days as long as the item remains in its original condition, with all packaging and tags still attached. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer. Refunds are issued once the item is received and inspected by us.

PLAYSILKS

Are your playsilks made of real silk?

Yes! Not only are they real silk, but they are also the highest quality silk available on the market today: 6A Grade.
Silk is graded A, B, or C quality with A being the highest and purest. The threads have a pearlized white colour and its strands are long and very strong when compared to the lower quality varieties. Grade A silk is further divided into A, A2, A3, A4, A5, and A6, with A6 being the absolute highest quality available. We are proud to offer you 6A grade playsilks.

What type of silk are your playsilks made of?

100% Habotai mulberry silk. Let’s split up the explanation in 2 parts:

Mulberry silk – The highest and finest quality of silk available on the market. The name “mulberry” comes from the food that the silkworm eats. Mulberry silk threads are the best in the world. They are stronger, smoother, and more uniformly coloured than other varieties, resulting in more beautiful vibrant colours, and stronger finished products.

Silk Habotai is the actual type of silk fabric weave we offer. It is a plain weave silk that’s renowned for its light weight, sheen, and softness. It is traditionally used to make kimonos and nowadays is also commonly used for various other garments.

What is your silk weight? Is it strong enough for my kids to play with?

8 Momme – Momme (mm) is a unit traditionally used to measure the weight of silk fabrics. We have chosen 8 momme as the perfect weight for our playsilks as it gives them strength yet maintains the desired lightness and sheer.

Are your playsilks safe for my kids?

Our Playsilks are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, class I. That is one of the world’s best known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. That means they are certified harmless for human health. You can find our verifiable certificate number on your product label. For more information visit the OEKO-TEX® website.

Where are your playsilks made?

They are made in China, by a traditional silk manufacturer that adheres to the most stringent quality and safety standards, while respecting and acknowledging its ancient historical value for the Chinese culture.

Chinese silk is known through history as one of the most luxurious and interesting fabrics ever made. The silk thread was accidentally discovered by Chinese Empress Leizu (also known as Xi Ling Shi) in the Neolithic China within the Yangshao culture (4th millennium BCE), and has since held very high value.

We are very proud to have partnered with a responsible organization that values social and environmental responsibility and is extremely proud of the product they make.

How can I wash my playsilks?

Please refer to our Care Instructions page for detailed directions.

MINKY BLANKETS

What are your blankets made of?

Our blankets are made of double sided, single layer royal minky fabric. Royal minky is known for its luxurious softness and comfort. We chose what is in our opinion the perfect thickness and plush to offer a lightweight option for play but also incredible comfort for napping and lounging.

Why are your blankets white on the back?

This was an intentional decision after working with several different prototypes. We opted for a single layer blanket to keep it light enough for little ones to play with, easily carry it around, and build forts with. Being a single layer fabric meant we were limited in dyeing the back. Our blanket face has vibrant detailed prints that are colourfast and extremely comfortable to the touch. Our blankets back offer the same comfort but cannot be dyed without damaging the delicate minky fibres and compromising the longevity and comfort of the final product.
Double layering it, although also resulting in a beautiful product, produced a much heavier piece that limited some children’s ability to play with it. At Whimsical Things we are all about keeping your child’s imagination running completely free and including all children in play, no matter their ability.

Are they safe for my child?

Whimsical Things play blankets have been carefully designed for playtime with comfort and safety in mind. Our blankets are Oeko-Tex 100 certified, meaning no harmful substances were used in the manufacturing process and the final product is harmless to human health.

There was a smell when I first opened the package. What was that?
