Import Duties, Tariffs, and Fees (U.S. Orders Only)
We ship to the U.S. with Purolator, which transfers parcels to UPS at the border. All U.S. shipments are sent under DAP (Delivered At Place) terms.
This means that while your order will be delivered to your address, any duties, tariffs, taxes, or brokerage fees assessed at the border are the responsibility of the customer upon receipt. By purchasing from us, you agree to pay these fees directly to UPS.
Delivery charges may include, but are not limited to:
- Tariffs: While our products are designed, packed, and shipped from Canada, they are manufactured in China. Under current U.S. trade rules, Chinese-origin goods incur a 30% tariff upon entry into the U.S. (most of our products fall into this category).
- Duties: Most of our products are classified as toys, which have a 0% duty rate. However, U.S. Customs may occasionally reclassify items (such as covers or blankets) under different HS codes (e.g., upholstered furniture or bedding), which can add 10% or more in duties.
- Brokerage fees: UPS charges a brokerage fee for handling customs clearance, typically $20–$40 USD depending on order value.
- Disbursement fees: UPS may also charge a small flat disbursement/advancement fee (usually $6–$12 USD) when they pay duties/tariffs to Customs on your behalf and then collect from you at delivery.
UPS will contact you directly (by email, phone, or through your UPS account) to arrange payment of these charges before or after delivery.
⚠️ Important: Orders cannot be returned or refunded if the customer refuses delivery due to duties, tariffs, or fees.
For more information or to estimate potential duty rates, you can use the official U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) search tool: https://hts.usitc.gov. Please note this tool does not include brokerage or carrier fees.
Our Responsibility
We provide all required documentation with each shipment, but we cannot predict or guarantee the final fees assessed by U.S. Customs and UPS. By purchasing from us, you acknowledge and agree that:
- All duties, tariffs, taxes, brokerage, and additional fees are your responsibility upon delivery.
- Whimsical Things is not responsible for duties, tariffs, taxes, brokerage, or any additional fees due upon delivery.
- If you have specific questions about charges, please contact UPS Customs Brokerage directly, as they will process your package once it crosses the border.
Order Processing Time
- In-stock items: ship within 5 business days from the time they are placed.
- Pre-order items: ship according to the timeline specified on each product page. Please refer to the product page for accurate estimated delivery times.
- During busy holiday periods, it may take longer to ship. Any predicted delays will be communicated on the website.
Delivery Address & P.O. Boxes
We are unable to modify delivery addresses once an order has been placed. We do not ship to P.O. boxes.
Tracking Your Order
Once your order has been dispatched, we will send you a confirmation email with tracking information. You will be able to track your package directly on the carrier’s website.
